About Bruntsfield…

Bruntsfield is one of the oldest areas in Edinburgh and over the centuries has changed hands many times. These days it’s a popular place to live due to its history, architecture and friendly community. The area is popular with families, young professionals and students.

Perhaps its most famous feature is the Bruntsfield Links, which many locals claim is Scotland’s oldest golf course. Whether it is or not, it’s still a beautiful area and a great way to get a round of golf in without driving all the way to St Andrews.

Schools

Children in this area typically go to Bruntsfield Primary School and Boroughmuir High School, which receives some of the best results of any state school in the country. Its alumni include England National Rugby Union team player Tom Palmer and actress Annette Crosbie.

Businesses and amenities

Because of its relative affluence, Bruntsfield is a popular area for small and new businesses. Bruntsfield Place boasts many niche stores such as picture framers, designer shoe shops, jewellers and traditional toy shops. There’s also a good range of general stores including supermarkets, bakers, butchers and fishmongers.

And not being too far from Morningside, you’re also just a quick stroll away from some great charity shops and thrift stores.

Having fun

You’ll find yourself spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out. The area is famous in Edinburgh for its cafés, with a lovely range of coffee shops and eateries spanning the length of Bruntsfield Place. And in the evenings you can take your pick from any of the pubs, brasseries and bistros serving all sorts of local produce.

As for nightlife, Bruntsfield offers a relaxing alternative to the main clubbing streets of Edinburgh. The local pubs and bars are great for a chilled out pint and a chat without having to deal with loud music and stag dos.

The area is also right on the edge of The Meadows; a gorgeous area of flat grassland and trees that are famously beautiful whatever the season. In the spring the trees come alive with white blossom, in the summer it’s a great area for a sunbathe and a game of Frisbee, in the autumn the paths are coated in a layer of golden leaves and in the winter the whole area becomes a snow-quilted winter wonderland.

Transport

With its central and popular location, Bruntsfield is inevitably on several bus routes. These allow you to reach virtually any part of Edinburgh in minutes. The area itself is within walking distance of Princes Street and The Royal Mile and many residents choose the scenic route into town through the nearby Meadows.

So you can see why Bruntsfield is such an attractive area to people looking for a new home. And there are plenty to choose from, whether you like traditional architecture or more contemporary builds.
